Travel, Stay, Play:
Where to stay as a digital nomad or slow traveller in 2025...
If you're a digital nomad or remote worker on the go, finding safe and budget-friendly accommodation is essential. Here’s a quick rundown of trending 2025 options – with some handy safety tips.
- House sitting: Staying in someone’s home can feel secure and welcoming, but comfort starts with clear expectations. Make sure you know any security routines like alarms or locks, or what to do if you lose the front door key! And, check in regularly with the homeowner to reassure them that their home and beloved pet (if you're pet sitting too) are A-OK.

- Coliving spaces: Co-living hubs often come with built-in security, like key cards and 24-hour front desks. Before booking, look for reviews on safety and cleanliness as well as attributes that are important to you when it comes to accommodation. It's also smart to keep your valuables locked up if living in shared spaces and use secure passwords and/or a VPN on shared WiFi.
- Short-term rentals: Platforms like Airbnb offer verified listings, but it’s always a good idea to read reviews carefully, especially about the neighbourhood. Look for subtext that pertains to attributes that make you feel at home too. Choose rentals with secure entry and look for spaces with private, lockable rooms if you’re sharing.
- Hostels: Yes, still a thing, and can be both social and secure, but check for private lockers and use them for valuables. If possible, opt for hostels with private rooms if you’re staying longer, and be mindful of shared WiFi networks by using a VPN. Many hostels are not as cheap as they used to be, so always compare the cost with other nearby Airbnbs or even listings on booking.com.
Wherever you stay, trust your instincts and prioritise secure environments. With the right precautions, you can enjoy every stop on your journey with peace of mind.
