Summer Travel 2025:

3 Essential Tips for House Sitters

If you’ve secured a summer house sit, congratulations! With travel in full swing, homeowners are trusting you to care for their pets and property during the hottest months of the year.

Here are three key reminders to help you succeed and keep everyone safe and happy.

  1. Confirm the essentials before arrival:
Even with a confirmed sit, it’s worth double-checking important details a week or so before you arrive. Confirm things like alarm codes, vet contact details, bin days, and any updates to pet routines. Ask about garden care or appliances that might need special attention in the heat. These check-ins show reliability and avoid last-minute surprises.
  2. Be heat-aware:
Summer can bring soaring temperatures, especially if you’re sitting in a location without air conditioning. Wear breathable clothes, keep windows shaded, and know how to cool the house effectively. Pets can overheat quickly, so provide cool, fresh water, shade, and adjust walk times to early morning or evening. A portable fan can be a lifesaver for both you and the animals.
  3. Prioritise pet safety in the heat
Stick closely to the pet’s routine, and always carry water on walks. Never leave animals in cars or stuffy rooms, even briefly. If you’re going out for a few hours, ensure the house is cool and ventilated. Fans, open windows, and blackout curtains can make a big difference. Of course, always check there is plenty of water. A safe pet is a happy pet – and a happy homeowner.

📍WHERE IN THE WORLD IS MONTENEGRO?

“Mountains, coastline, and Mediterranean calm…”

Featured in the Nomad Index's official top 5 best digital nomad destinations this year (see video above), Montenegro is a small but stunning country on the Adriatic Sea. It is gaining popularity among digital nomads looking for natural beauty, affordability, and a slower pace of life. With dramatic mountains, medieval towns, and crystal-clear waters, it’s a remote work destination that feels like a hidden retreat.

Coastal towns like Kotor and Budva offer charming old towns, scenic views, and an emerging network of coworking cafés and coliving spaces. Meanwhile, the capital Podgorica provides more urban conveniences for those seeking a city base.

After work, wander the cobbled streets of UNESCO-listed Kotor, hike in Durmitor National Park, or take a dip in the Adriatic. With visa-free access for many nationalities, reliable internet, and a peaceful atmosphere, Montenegro is a rising favourite for remote workers wanting to blend productivity with serenity.
